It’s 11:00 AM, July 8 as we make our way out of Thunder Bay. From here, we will travel to Sioux Lookout and then another 2.5hrs to reach our destination point – The Mishkeegogamang Reserve!
There’s nothing more exciting then knowing that we’re almost there. I can’t wait to see those children and to see how much they have grown since last year. This will be my 5th summer, which seems so crazy to me, yet so wonderfully awesome.
Every year brings different surprises, things we cannot prepare for. This year, the whole Reserve was evacuated due to a huge forest fire looming close by. The main concern was the abundance of smoke that filled the air. We were told on July 1 that the smoke was no longer an issue and the people of the community were able to return to the safety and comfort of their own homes. The whole team was excited because this meant we could carry on with Mish Adventures.
Despite any obstacles we might have to overcome or challenges we may face in the community, I’m very excited. I’ve been doing this for 4 and we have another awesome team. I anticipate a great three weeks in Mish. I know there will be many on the team, like me, that will simply not want to leave.
