The air was alive with excitement and anticipation as the evening before whispers travelled from child to child, “Tomorrow is beach day!”
The next morning the big yellow school bus hummed and buzzed with the same excitement as the children were driven to the beach. Due to the popularity of this event, we had 90 children join us for this beach day. We were overjoyed to have so many little friends joining us but it definitely took some extra brainpower and energy to keep things running smoothly.
The long stretch of beautiful white sand and the clear water was soon overrun with the bright colours of floaties, sand toys and lively children. The kids did not wait long to get their toes wet and before we knew it there was splashing, jumping and laughter.
The team managed to entice the kids out of the water with sandwiches and fruit cups. Later in the afternoon, we had a sand castle building competition between the different camp teams and we were thrilled with the stunning works of sand art.
As the day drew to a close, happy but tired legs dragged tired feet up the hill and back onto the bus. On this day, we made many happy memories and tomorrow we look forward to another fun-filled camp day – fun, fun, fun in the Mishkeegogamang sun!
