Speroway boxes – delivering hope in Toronto!

”Someday, maybe I can do this for others,” said one of the recipients of a Speroway food box at the June 14 distribution at Rexdale Alliance Church (RAC) in Toronto, Ontario.

The event was organized by Concord Hospitality to give back to the community. Twenty-five volunteers from the Residence Inn in Mississauga were on site to assist with the food drop alongside church volunteers.

One of the volunteers said, “I am glad that I came. I didn’t know to what degree churches and organizations like Speroway were active in our community.” Another got involved because she knows how difficult it is for people to survive. She is from an African country and said, “I am from a country where many people are in need and there are organizations who provide food and medical support to the people there. Although I cannot get involved practically for them, by getting involved locally, it’s my way of thanking those who support my people back home.”

Rexdale Alliance Church (RAC) has a process for determining the needs of each individual receiving food boxes to ensure that an equitable distribution occurs. RAC uses food distribution programs to share the love of Christ with single mothers and needy families – showing them that others care and want to help.

Other groups who received food and hygiene boxes from Speroway in the Etobicoke/North Islington area are, Salvation Army and St. Jamestown Services.  Approximately 150 boxes were picked up by these organizations for distribution to needy families.

Each time we deliver a food or hygiene box we hear the same thing, “Thank you – my family, particularly my kids, gets things that I cannot get for them.” Speroway – delivering hope to needy children!
